Post-Garza County Endowment Mini-Grants for Teachers Story: Garza County Regional Detention Center

With funding from Post-Garza County Endowment’s Mini-Grants for Teachers, the Garza County Regional Detention Center Campus purchased five new Chromebooks for student use. This grant enabled the Center to have enough laptops for every student in all seven sections of online math classes: 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade math, algebra 1, geometry, and math models. A Garza County teacher says, “The mini-grant for the five Chromebooks and licenses will eliminate the almost daily liability of scrambling for a computer for each student when we have two fourteen-student, online-curriculum driven classes working simultaneously.”

Another benefit of the laptops is that the devices will reduce the amount of time the district’s technology team spends configuring desktops, laptops, and Chromebooks for state assessments. The new devices have a kiosk testing mode that can be turned on remotely from the Center’s technology office.
